Wanna use Launchpad on Mac? Here is how you can.

Launchpad served as an important part of Apple’s “Back to the Mac initiative”, which was aimed at a more iPad-like feel. Launchpad helps you see, search for, organize, and easily open your apps, and is considered a Home screen-like launcher on macOS. And in this tutorial, we would like to show you how to use Launchpad on Mac.

How to open an app 

Step 1: There are three methods to open Launchpad:

Method 1: Click on the Launchpad’s Dock icon.

Method 2: Pinch on your trackpad using three fingers and your thumb.

Method 3: Hit the Launchpad button on your Apple keyboard (aka F4).

Step 2: Click on the app you want to open.

How to search an app

If you have installed tons of apps, you can search for them in Launchpad with ease.

Step 1: Open Launchpad.

Step 2: Choose the search bar at the top of the page.

Step 3: Type in the name of the app you would like to find.

It’s good to be aware that you don’t have to enter the entire name of the app, since when you have started typing in, Launchpad will start filtering the results.

How to move apps

This comes in handy, as you can have all your favorite and most used apps in a specific location in Launchpad.

Step 1: Open Launchpad.

Step 2: Click and hold the app you would like to move until it starts to wiggle.

Step 3: Drag the app to its new location.

How to organize apps into folders 

Step 1: Open Launchpad.

Step 2: Click and hold the app you would like to put in a folder until it starts to wiggle.

Step 3: Drag the app on top of another app you would like to put in the same folder until a white box shows up around both apps.

Step 4: Just release. From now on, you have similar apps put into a folder.

How to delete apps

Before getting started, note that you can’t remove stock apps or apps that running in the background on your Mac.

Step 1: Open Launchpad.

Step 2: Click and hold the app you would like to delete until it starts to wiggle.

Step 3: Hit the small X appearing in the upper-left corner of the app to delete it. If the X doesn’t appear, this means you can’t delete that app in Launchpad.

How to reset Launchpad in Mac

There are times when you install a new app but it doesn’t appear in Launchpad. You can manually refresh Launchpad to fix the issue. And here’s how.

Step 1: Click on your desktop.

Step 2: Choose the Go menu at the top of your screen.

Step 3: Press and hold the Option key.

Step 4: Choose Library.

Step 5: Double click on the Application Support folder.

Step 6: Double click on the Dock folder.

Step 7: Find files ending in “.db”, and drag them into the trash.

Step 8: Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen.

Step 9: Click on Restart > Restart.

Once completed, all your apps will show up on Launchpad.
