iPhone users would be happy to know that iOS 10 does simplify the process of making a call or sending a message to their favorite contacts. In particular, they can do this without even unlocking their iPhone. This is made possible thanks to the two new features of iOS 10: new Favorites widget and the Today view on the Lock screen. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps so that you can call or message your favorite contacts without unlocking your device. Have a look.
Steps to customize favorites
First and foremost, you will need to customize your contact list favorites. It’s great if you have already set up Favorites, but we recommend editing them since iOS 10 allows you to add Favorites for different numbers for the same person and even for messages. Here’s how to add a Favorite:
Step 1: Launch the Phone app and then choose the Favorite apps.
Step 2: Tap on the plus icon in the upper left corner, and search for a name.
Step 3: Add a contact by tapping on it.
Step 4: A popup appears. From here, you can pick the phone numbers you want added, or messaged, or mailed.
Step 5: Once completed, they’ll be added to the Favorites list. Just do that for all the contacts and numbers.
Note that the Favorites widget will only show the first 8 contacts on this list. You can rearrange them by tapping on the Edit button, and there is the Handle icon next to each contact. Just tap and drag that icon to the position you wish.
Steps to enable the Widget
Step 1: Head to the Today view from the Lock screen, Home screen, or Notification Center.
Step 2: Swipe to the bottom and press Edit.
Step 3: You are now required to locate the Favorites widget and tap on the plus icon beside it.
Step 4: Tap on the Handle icon to reorder the Favorites widget, and then the Done button to save it.
That’s it. You are all done. From now on, the widget will appear in the Today view, and you are able to call your favorites contacts without unlocking your phone.
