Tips to set up and use VoiceOver on Apple Watch

VoiceOver, part of Apple’s suite of accessibility features, definitely serves as a very significant tool that helps people suffering from visual impairments or partial blindness navigate the Apple Watch user interface by sound. How to enable VoiceOver on the Apple Watch

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.

Step 2: Head to General > Accessibility > VoiceOver.

Step 3: Now, simply toggle it to ON.

If you want to disable it, repeat the same steps and toggle the switch to OFF.

How to enable it using the Watch app for iPhone

Step 1: Open the Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Head to General > Accessibility > VoiceOver.

Step 3: Toggle it to ON.

How to customize it using the Watch app for iPhone

  • Drag the Speaking Rate slider towards the turtle icon to let VoiceOver speak slower. If you want to let it speak fast, just drag the slider towards the rabbit icon.
  • Drag the Volume slider towards the left to make VoiceOver quieter. If you want to make it louder, drag the slider towards the right.
  • Turn on Speak Hints so that VoiceOver can explain how to use interface elements.
  • Turn on Screen Curtain, if you want the screen turned off while using VoiceOver.
  • Turn on Speak on Wrist Raise so that VoiceOver can automatically tell which interface element you are on when the Apple Watch wakes up.

How to enable and customize Taptic Time using the Watch app for iPhone

Step 1: Open the Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Head to My Watch tab > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Taptic Time.

Step 3: Toggle Taptic Time to ON.

Step 4: Select a style: Digits, Terse, or Morse Code.

How to control it on your Apple Watch

  • Touch the Apple Watch’s screen and move your finger around so that VoiceOver can speak interface elements such as icons and buttons.
  • If you want to select any element, just tap on it.
  • Swipe left or right to jump to the next interface element.
  • If you want to activate any element, just double tap on it.
  • Swipe with two fingers to flick down notification center and glances, or to page left or right.
  • If you wish to adjust volume on-the-fly, double tap and hold with two fingers and then slide left or right.
  • Trace a “Z” shape across the screen in order to go back a page.
  • Double tap with two fingers to pause or restart it.
