Apple has removed the iCloud Activation Lock status page for iOS devices, which used to exist at iCloud.com/activationlock. This is a utility that allows everyone to find out if Activation Lock had been activated or turned off to verify the authenticity of the seller when buying a used iPhone online by entering the IMEI or serial number of that device in the utility. Apple has not given an alternative way until now to check if the Find My iPhone is turned On/Off. But that does not mean there is no way to check the status on an iOS device, you can easily do it via iphoneimei.net website.
For those who have not known exactly what Activation Lock is yet, it is a feature automatically enabled on any iOS device when Find My iPhone is activated in the Settings of an iPhone/iPad/iPod running iOS 7.0 or higher. It requires an Apple ID and password of an activated account to carry out tasks such as erasing all data, disabling Find my iPhone, and reactivating the device for use with another account. It is Apple’s method to protect against theft, loss and fraud resale.
From now, before you purchase a used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from somebody else, and want to make sure the Find My iPhone activation lock is turned off so that the device is ready for you to use, simply visit iphoneimei.net to check. Here is how to check the Activation Lock status through the website.
- Open any web browser and go to iphoneimei.net.
- Here, select Check iPhone IMEI
- Enter the IMEI number of the iOS device in the box
- Check the Activation Lock if it’s activated or not
That’s done! Now you have already known the Activation Lock status of the iOS device.
