The biggest difference between the Apple Watch Series 3 and its predecessors is the support of cellular data. In the Apple Series 3, you can make and receive phone calls and text messages without needing to bring your iPhone with you.
However, some users have recently complained that there was an issue with the built-in cellular modem, their Apple Watch Series 3 usually failed to send or receive text messages and calls over LTE. Some of them left their phone at home and went out with the watch as a standalone device, but they were unable to answer the incoming phone calls.

Text Messages Not Sending
Sending and receiving messages on LTE might be the most common issue on Apple Watch Series 3. If this is what you are facing with your Apple Watch Series 3, you should try the solution below.
- Go to Settings and tap on Messages
- Tap on Send & Receive
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Choose the phone number issued to your Apple Watch and your email address
Now, you can try sending a text message to a contact of your choice. The mentioned steps forces your Apple Watch to send iMessage through your email address that was signed in earlier and without the phone number on your iPhone.
If the instruction above did not help, then there is another option you can try.
- Ensure your Apple Watch is connected to a cellular network. You can look for it through four green dots in the Control Center.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings> General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
- Unpair and then re-pair the Apple Watch with your iPhone
Cellular Doesn’t Connect On Apple Watch Series 3
Text messaging isn’t the only issue on the Apple Watch 3. Some users are not able to connect the cellular data with their provider. The AT&T and Verizon customers are complaining the most about this issue on their Watch. If you can’t create or receive any with your Watch Series 3, chances are you should setup the cellular program first.
- Disable Wi-Fi on your iPhone
- Launch the Watch app
- Choose My Watch > Cellular
- Tap on Set Up Cellular
