The AirPods are not perfect as the user’s expectation, but they are still the best wireless earbuds currently on the market, particularly for those who are fans of Apple devices.
As you know, AirPods support iPhones, iPads, and Macs, but don’t you know that they even work perfectly with Apple TV (4th generation or 4K). AirPods can now help you get the audio beaming wirelessly in the living room no matter is it at late-night or early-morning without having to worry about disturbing everyone else. Here’s how you can do it.
If you have a mentioned Apple TV running tvOS 11 or higher, and you have already signed in the same iCloud account as the iPhone/iPad/Mac you’ve previously paired your AirPods, you would not have to do anything. AirPods will automatically connect to other Apple devices, which is using the same iCloud account, and Apple TV is not also an exception.
If you use a different iCloud account for your Apple TV, or your TV isn’t running tvOS 11, you’ll need to manually pair your AirPods. Here’s how to do it.
- First, put the AirPods in the case and then open the lid.
- Press the pairing button on the back until you see the white flashlight.
- Now, on your Apple TV, launch the Settings app.
- Choose Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
- Choose your AirPods from the list.
Connect to your AirPods from your Apple TV
Once they are paired together, you need to connect with them to make the Apple TV audio play on your AirPods.
The easiest way to do this is holding down the Play/Pause button on the Apple TV remote when you are in the TV app. There will be a menu popup that allows you to choose music and the device to play it through. Simply choose your AirPods.
Some users say that just by pressing the Siri button on the remote and then saying “Connect to my AirPods“, it will connect to them. However, this method does not work. Instead, you will be taken to the Settings menu. But you can still try it without any harm.

Use AirPods with Apple TV
There will be a few functions of AirPods that you use on your iPhone will not work with Apple TV. You won’t be able to use them for asking Siri, and you need to use the Siri remote for that.
However, other functions of the AirPod still work great. You can still double-tap one of them for pausing/ resuming video. If you take an AirPod out of your ear, it will automatically pause whatever audio or video being played. To ply it again, you simply put your AirPods back into their case and then close the lid to disconnect them.
