How to Stop iPhone from Auto-playing Music

There is no doubt as Apple’s CarPlay is an extremely great infotainment system over Android Auto. All you need is quickly connecting your iPhone to the CarPlay and then you can enjoy your favorite music, make calls/messages, use GPS and more. Although this sounds high-tech, there is still a sting in the tail. The moment you enter your car and your iPhone is automatically connected to CarPlay, your private songs will become public, and they are audible to others sitting in your car. That time you wish you could stop your device from auto-playing music.

While Apple doesn’t provide any solution on your iOS devices to stop auto-play in the car, there are still some workarounds to stop your iPhone from auto-playing music in your car. Here is how to do this.

How to Stop iPhone from Auto-playing Music in Car

Here are some ways you can try to disable your iPhone from automatically playing music in your car.

Use a silent track

As you know, your iPhone, by default, plays songs in alphabetical order, so you can take advantage of this habit to trick Bluetooth stereo in your card. Simply transfer a silent song to your iTunes and rename it to make it appear first in your library. From now when entering your car, this silent song will play first.

Use Siri

Another way you can try is using Siri. Simply speak, “Hey Siri, stop playing music, “and it will stop all noise coming out of your iPhone. This will automatically turn off your music as well.

Force close Apple Music app

If you are using Apple Music (any other music app) to listen to songs, you can force quit it. Just double-tap the home button and swipe it up from app switcher. If you use iPhone X, force closing apps are slightly different. You have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause. Next, touch and hold on any app pane until you see a red icon. Tap on it to close the music app.

Disable CarPlay

You can also make use of Restrictions feature on your iPhone to disable or turn off CarPlay. However, this trick only works when you use a Bluetooth stereo, which doesn’t support CarPlay. If you have an official CarPlay system, this method becomes useless. So, try this method and check the results.

If you have updated your iPhone to iOS 12 version, you have to follow a different method to disable CarPlay in iOS 12. To do so

Step 1: Open Settings app on your iPhone and tap on Screen Time.

Step 2: Tap on Content & Privacy Restrictions section.

If you are using it for the first time, you will have to set up a Screen Time passcode. It will just take ten seconds to set up a passcode.

Step 3: Now, enter your Screen Time Passcode and then tap on Allowed Apps.

Step 4: Finally, toggle the CarPlay switch to off.
