How to create and work with tables in Apple Notes app

From iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra 10.13 version, Apple added a great new feature for the Notes app, which now allows you to create tables in Apple Notes. This is a handy feature for the times when paragraphs just don’t cut it. If you haven’t used this feature yet, here are the basics you should know to get started.

How to add tables in Apple Notes

To add tables in the Apple Notes app, simply follow the below steps:

1) Launch the Notes app on your iOS or Mac device.

2) Choose an existing note or create a new one that you want to add the table.

3) Tap on the Table button from the toolbar. On Mac, you can choose Format > Table. There will pop up a basic table, including two rows and two columns. You can then type the data in the cells.

However, the table feature doesn’t stop there. You can easily manage rows and columns, rearrange cells, and allow formatting.

How to work with tables in Apple Notes app on iOS

To add or delete rows or columns on your iOS device, just follow the below steps

1) Tap on a cell in the table.

2) Select handle corresponding to the row or column which you want to add or delete one.

3) When the handle menu appears, tap on your selection.

If you want to select multiple cells in a table, do the following steps:

1) Tap inside one of the cells and when a menu popup appears, tap on Select.

2) The cell will be then highlighted. All you need is using the circles and then dragging through the rest of the cells to choose them. It can be done for all cells in a column, row, or even the entire table.

To format the text inside a cell, just follow these steps:

1) Tap inside the cell that you want to format. Next, choose Select or Select All.

2) Tap on the text button to apply bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough options to the selected text.

Do the following steps to convert text inside a table to plain text in the note.

1) Select one of the cells on the table.

2) Tap on the Table button from the toolbar.

3) When you see the pop-up menu, tap on Convert to Text.

How to work with tables in Apple Notes on Mac

To add or delete rows/columns on your Mac, do the following steps

1) Click on a cell from the table.

2) Click on the handle corresponding to the row or column that you wish to add or delete one.

3) Select the down arrow to open the menu and make your choice.

Simply follow the below steps to select multiple cells in a table.

1) Click inside one of the cells you want.

2) Drag through the rest of the cells. The selected cells will be highlighted.

To format the text inside a cell:

1) Click inside the cell that you’d like to format and drag through the text.

2) Click on the Format button and select Font or Text option.

If you want to convert text inside a table to plain text, just follow the below steps:

1) Click inside one of the cells you want.

2) Click on Format and then choose Convert to Text.
