How To Set Up Your New Apple Watch 4

Although Apple and iPhone are two distinctly different pieces of hardware, the Watch can’t exist without iPhone. When you purchase a new Apple Watch Series 4, after the first step is to turn it on, the next one comes pairing it to your iPhone.

When pairing your new Apple Watch with your iPhone, it requires using the Apple Watch app on your connected iPhone. So, you should make sure it’s already pre-installed on your iPhone.  In this post today, we’d like to show you a full instruction about how to set up your new Apple Watch Series 4 to your iPhone. How to pair Apple Watch 4 to your iPhone

First of all, you need to pair your new Apple Watch to your preferred iPhone. There are two ways of pairing your Watch to your iPhone, depending on your liking. Let’s go into each one.

Automatically pair your new Apple Watch 4 with iPhone

  1. On your iPhone, open the Watch app. (You can also put your new Watch near your iPhone to open up an interface that will then launch the Watch app.)
  2. Tap on Start Pairing.
  3. Move your iPhone over your Watch until your wearable is lined up in the center of the yellow rectangle. When you see a message saying “Your Apple Watch Is Paired,” it means the process is successful.

 Manually pair your new Apple Watch with iPhone

If you are not able to automatically start the pairing process, you can then manually pair your iPhone and Apple Watch. Instead of needing the help of the nifty QR-code-style process, you can use your Watch’s name to start the process. To do so:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Watch app. (You can also put your new Watch near your iPhone to open up an interface that will then launch the Watch app.)
  2. Tap on Start Pairing > Pair Apple Watch Manually
  3. On your new Watch 4, tap i icon to see your device’s name.
  4. On your iPhone, choose your Apple Watch from the list.
  1. Now, select whether to set up your Watch 4 as new or to restore from a backup.

How to set up or restore your new Apple Watch from a backup

After you have paired your new Apple Watch 4 to your iPhone, it’s time to set it up as new or restore from an existing backup.

 Set up an Apple Watch as new

If this is your first Apple Watch or you simply don’t like carrying over old data from your previous Watch, it’s simple to set up your smartwatch from the scratch. To do so:

  1. Once the pairing process is complete, tap on Set Up as New Apple Watch option

  1. Tap on Left or Right to tell your Watch on which wrist you want to wear it.
  2. Agree to the watchOS Terms and Conditions and confirm it again
  3. You need now to enter your Apple ID for setting up Activation Lock as well as Find My iPhone
  4. Now, create a passcode for Apple Watch.
  • Select Add a Long Passcode if you want a passcode longer than four digits.
  • Tap Don’t Add Passcode if don’t want to have a passcode on your new Watch.
  1. Tap on create a four-digit passcode and enter your passcode again to confirm.
  2. If your new Apple Watch supports LTE service, you can choose whether to Set Up Cellular or not.
  3. Next, set up Apple Pay (or you can set it up later).
  4. Back to your connected iPhone, tap on Continue to prove that you understand Emergency SOS.
  5. Now, install the available watchOS apps on your iPhone

You need to sync your new Apple Watch 4 with your iPhone. When syncing is completed, your Watch is now ready to roll! You can also see basic navigation tips on your Watch, called “Apple Watch Basics.”

 Restore Apple Watch from a backup

After the pairing process is done, you can also choose to restore a backup on your new Apple Watch 4. However, you should note that the backup must have been created from WatchOS 5 version. To do so:

  1. Tap on Restore from Backup

  3. Accept the terms and conditions.
  4. Enter your Apple ID to set up Activation Lock and Find My iPhone
  5. Now, create a passcode for Apple Watch.
  • Select Add a Long Passcode if you want to add a passcode longer than four digits.
  • Tap Don’t Add Passcode if don’t want to have a passcode on your Apple Watch.
  1. Create a four-digit passcode and confirm it again.
  2. If your Apple Watch Series 4 supports LTE service and you have not yet set it up, you will be prompted to Set Up Cellular.
  3. Back to your iPhone, tap on Continue to prove that you understand Emergency SOS.
  4. If you set up Apple Pay, you have to enter your card security code, depending on which card you want to add.

Your Apple Watch 4 will now start restoring data from the backup. You can also see basic navigation tips on your Watch, called “Apple Watch Basics” while waiting for the restoration to complete.

How to get more out of your new Apple Watch 4

After your new watch is paired to your iPhone, you can then start using it. However, there are still a number of things to customize. The Watch app isn’t only for setup, It’s a great way to manage your Watch apps, settings, incoming calls, messages, updates, and other features.
