Do you know that you can do a lot of great things with your Apple TV, from watching films to playing games? And if you are using a Mac, you can then play on the big screen by mirroring your computer display to your TV. You might like seeing your work on a larger screen or, you may want to use a second display for better multitasking. This guide will show you how to mirror your Mac display to Apple TV.
Mirror your Mac display to Apple TV
Imagine that you are working on a Keynote presentation or are seeing your lovely from your last vacation. Putting those things on your Apple TV screen is a good idea.
1) Power on your Apple TV and ensure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
2) Click on AirPlay button from the menu bar. If this button is not available, navigate to Apple icon > System Preferences > Displays and check the Show mirroring options box in the menu bar.
3) From the AirPlay drop-down, click on Apple TV icon.
You Mac display will now show up on your TV. So, you can start using the larger screen with the display on your Mac.
The AirPlay button will be highlighted. When clicking on it again, Mirror Apple TV will be checked. You can now choose Mirror Built-in Retina Display to fit the size of your desktop or leave it as-is to match your Apple TV screen size.
Use your Apple TV as a secondary display
If you need a second display, you can then take advantage of your Apple TV to turn it into another monitor. It lets you drag apps onto the TV and you can use both your Mac and Apple TV display at the same time.
Repeat the same steps above to AirPlay your Mac to your Apple TV. After that, click on the AirPlay button in the menu bar and choose Use As a Separate Display from the drop-down menu.
You can now drag or open apps with your Apple TV display.
Change back to Mac display
Once you are done with either mirroring or extending your Mac display to Apple TV, simply click on the AirPlay button from the menu bar and toggle AirPlay Off.
