There are over 30 million people browsing the web right now using an Apple device. So it’s no surprise that many developers are porting the most popular CMS’s, forums, blogging and e-commerce platforms over to be Mobile Safari friendly. While there are hundreds of publishing platforms out there, I thought I’d post a list of some of the more popular ones that have been iPhone optimized.

WordPress

Since it is one of the most popular blogging platforms it’s no surprise there are several options for iPhone optimizing your WordPress install.

Time Inc. claims 1M monthly uniques to iPhone-optimized sites

There’s a great story over at Mobile Marketer today about Time, Inc.’s ambitious planned mobile rollout. Time sees the potential in mobile content, based on the 1 million monthly unique users to their iPhone-optimized sites already.

Starting next week they will debut a series of iPhone and WAP web sites and iPhone applications. “All of our major sites are rushing iPhone applications,” said John Squires, executive vice president of Time Inc., at the Time Inc. Digital showcase yesterday.

“We’ve seen our iPhone-accessed audience double in the last six months,” Jonathan Shar, general manager and senior vice president at CNNMoney.com said.

In a few weeks, Time plans to debut the iPhone version of Golf.com, with features including Facebook connectivity, maps, weather and the ability to record stats for plays on golf courses. Other features include a golf course finder from a database of 16,000 courses, and tabs called “My Game,” “19th Hole” and “More from Golf.com,” implying their functions.

30M iPhone Users, Mobile Browsing Doubles in 1 Yr

There are some exciting developments in the world of mobile browsing! First, Apple announced today that it has sold 17 million iPhones and 13 million iPod Touches. That’s a total of 30 million people browsing the web using their Apple devices!

Also in the news: a new comScore report came out that shows the number of people using their mobile device to access news and information on the Internet more than doubled from January 2008 to January 2009. Among the audience of 63.2 million people who accessed news and information on their mobile devices in January 2009, 22.4 million (35 percent) did so daily; more than double the size of the audience last year.

“Much of the growth in news and information usage is driven by the increased popularity of downloaded applications, such as those offered for the iPhone.”

The breakdown is interesting:

Mobile social networks: Up 427%
Traded Stocks or accessed financial accounts: Up 188%
Access movie information: Up 185%
Accessed business directories: Up 161%
Accessed entertainment news: Up 160%
Accessed news & information: Up 107%

Mobile browsing market dominated by iPhone

A new study released by Net Applications shows that Apple’s iPhone now represents 66.61 percent of all mobile web traffic. That number is striking, since Apple only accounts for about 0.31% of the total mobile browser market.

In addition, iPhone sales grew 245% in 2008, far outpacing it’s closest rival Research in Motion (Blackberry), which came in at 96.7%. With that said, the iPhone will likely remain the dominant browser for some time.

If you haven’t thought about optimizing your website for iPhones, this should be an eye opener.

An Excellent Windows iPhone Simulator
