How to record iPhone screen on Mac/Windows

For many times you want to record your iPhone’s screen to perform a tutorial for your friend or make a gameplay to upload YouTube. However, Apple does not have  any screen recording apps in  the App Store and  you do not want to restore your device, there is the only way that is to use your Mac/Windows PC to record your iPhone screen.


In this article, we will show you the ways to record your iPhone’s screen on your Mac/ Windows. There are multiple solutions, but we just list the ones that worked out best.

How to record iPhone screen on Mac/Windows

  1. The Apple Way

Since the release of OS X Yosemite, you are now easier to record your iPhone’s screen on a Mac. You can follow the given steps below to record:

First, connect your iPhone to your Mac with a cable, and launch QuickTime. Once done, head to File -> New Movie Recording


Next, click on the arrow next to the record button and choose your iPhone in the list of mentioned sources under “Camera”.


You can now see your iPhone screen displayed on your Mac. Click on ‘Record’ button to start recording your iPhone’s screen.


  1. Lonely Screen app


If you use QuickTime to record the iPhone’s screen, it is incredibly easy. However, QuickTime does not support for Windows as well that time you do not have a lightning cable with you. In such situations, you should think about third party app.


Lonely Screen is a free third party app that supports both Windows and Mac. It can mirror and record your iPhone’s screen wirelessly on your Mac/Windows PC. Here is the instruction to use Lonely Screen app to record iPhone screen on Window/ Mac wirelessly:

  • First, Downloadand install Lonely Screen on your computer. Once done, open Lonely Screen app
  • On your iPhone, swipe up from the bottom to open Control Center, and then tap on “AirPlay Mirroring“. Select “Lonely Screen” from the optional list


  • Your iPhone’s screen will be mirrored on your computer. Once you are ready to record, just click on the arrow on the bottom right of the screen, to expand the bottom menu. Then, click on the record button to start recording your iPhone’s screen.


  • Stop the recording whenever you feel enough, Lonely Screen will automatically save file record to the Moviesfolder (on Mac) and Videos folder (on Windows)


  1. AirServer app

If you are looking for an app with more features available than Lonely Screen app, you can try AirServer, which offers AirPlay capabilities along with a lot of options.

AirServer allows your Mac/Windows to act as an AirPlay receiver, so you can mirror your iPhone screen on your computer wirelessly. It also allows you to adjust the mirroring quality with the standard resolutions (1080p, 720p etc). It has the ability to configure a password so that unauthenticated devices will not be able to connect to AirServer.


AirServer has the built-in recording capabilities, but they are disabled on the trial version of the software, and you will need to buy an AirServer license in order to use full features. However, you can use QuickTime on Mac, or a screen-recording app from third party on Windows to record the AirServer screen.

There are many apps that allow you to record your iPhone screens on your computer; they usually do not have built-in recording features. Although you have to pay $14.99 for it, AirServer is very worthy with the money you paid.

    Awesome! Everything works smoothly. However while playing games, the sound is delayed from the video itself a bit. I used to make screencast on my iPhone with acethinker iphone screen recorder, works like a charm as well. Share it here as an alternative.
