Solution 1: Restart your iPhone XS Max

Any device can deal with several adverse post-update symptoms. Some existing apps, including network services, are trying to adjust with the platform changes. So, restarting your phone is necessary after updating it to the latest version. If you haven’t restarted yet, follow these steps below to restart your iPhone XS Max:

  1. Press and hold the Power button along with one of two Volume buttons for a few seconds.
  2. Release them when you see the Slide to Power Off command on the screen and then drag the slider to the right.
  3. After 1 minute, press and hold the Power button again until it reboots.

You can also force restart your iPhone XS Max by following these steps below:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Do the same with the Volume Down button.
  3. Finally, press and hold the Power button and then release it when your iPhone reboots.

Both a reboot and force restart will not affect any saved data on your iPhone storage, so you don’t need to back up files & data. Junk files are stored among other cached items will also be cleared out during the process. This allows your iPhone to get better and faster afterwards.

Solution 2: Toggle Airplane Mode on and then off.

Random problems that affect your phone’s wireless radios, particularly on the cellular network system can also be addressed just by the simple Airplane mode trick. This method has been proven effective to fix different wireless connectivity errors that have destabilized cellular data functions. To get it done:

  1. Head to Settings app and tap on Airplane Mode menu.
  2. Toggle Airplane Mode switch to turn on the feature. All wireless radios on your iPhone XS will be disabled.
  3. Once Airplane mode is enabled, simply restart your iPhone to clear as well as refresh the internal storage and operating system.
  4. After it reboots, go to Settings-> Airplane Mode menu.
  5. Finally, toggle the switch off to disable Airplane Mode off again.

Wait for the wireless functions on your phone to reactivate and then check if your iPhone’s cellular services are already working normally. Move on to the applicable workaround if the problem still persists.

Solution 3: Update carrier settings on your iPhone

There are different types of software updates that you can implement on your iPhone, including updates for apps, iOS system, and carrier settings. Some updates are obligatory while the others are optional. Mandatory updates will be implemented automatically. On the other hand, optional updates need to be manually installed. These updates are generally released with new features and system enhancements while the others include fix patches for existing system bugs. To get rid of iOS bugs that might have caused the cellular functions not to work properly, you should install new carrier settings update on your iPhone XS Max. These updates offer network bug fixes and improved features. To manually check and install available updates for carrier settings on your iPhone XS Max:

  • Open Settings app on your phone and tap on General-> About.

Wait for a few seconds for your phone to populate the carrier information. If there is one available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the update.

Solution 4: Reset network settings on your iPhone

Network problems that could not be addressed by the previous tweaks are solved with a network reset. Bugs causing problems to cellular services can be fixed by this reset. However, you should note that this reset would erase all customized network settings such as Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth connections, and other relevant information on your iPhone. So make sure to have your Wi-Fi passwords handy before resetting. Once you are all set, follow these steps below to reset network settings on your iPhone XS Max:

  1. Open Settings app from your Home screen.
  2. Tap on General > Reset.
  3. Choose Reset network settings option
  4. When prompted, enter your device passcode and then follow the onscreen prompts to confirm a network settings reset.

Once the reset is done, your phone would automatically restart by itself. All you need is to wait until it boots up. After that, set up your Wi-Fi network to reconnect to the Internet again and check if this can fix the cellular services.

Another simple solution to fix random errors that affect cellular functions of your iPhone XS Max is to refresh the SIM card system. It can also get rid of random glitches from the recent iOS updates. Before removing your SIM card, make sure to power off your iPhone completely to prevent unexpected damage. Once your phone is turned off, follow these steps below:

  1. Put the SIM ejector into the tiny hole on your SIM card tray.
  2. Gently push the tool till the tray pops out.
  3. Pull it out to remove the SIM card.
  4. Check for any visible signs of damage like scratches or liquid traces on your SIM. If not, place it back into the tray before it was removed.
  5. Secure the SIM card in the place, then push the tray gently back into your phone.

Once done, turn your phone back on after the tray is locked in place. If all of these methods above could not fix the problem and your iPhone XS Max’s cellular services still don’t work, you should contact your carrier or Apple Support for further assistance.
